Which windows can I tint?

Where you live determines what glass components are legal to tint. Potential automotive glass candidates include the front side windows, rear side windows, front windshield, rear windshield, and even the sunroof. Homes and businesses are free to tint any window of their choosing.

What is VLT?

The letters VLT stand for “visible light transmittance” and refer to the amount of light able to pass through a window. When you talk about how dark or light you want your tint, you are talking about the VLT level, also known as the tint percentage level.

What are window tinting percentages?

Tinting percentages or VLT levels determine how much light will pass into your vehicle. The lower the number, the darker the tint. For example, a 5% tint is extremely dark because it’s meant to prevent 95% of light from passing through it. In contrast, a 50% tint is quite light.

What are common tinting percentages?

From lightest to darkest, some of the most common tinting percentages people want are:

  • 50% tint
  • 35% tint
  • 20% tint
  • 15% tint
  • 5% tint

Why does my tint look blurry?

If your newly tinted windows look blurry or cloudy, don’t worry. This is normal and the result of the tinting solution becoming stuck beneath the film. The solution will evaporate on its own, making your tint clear.

Why does my tint bubble?

You may see bubbles after tinting your windows. This is caused by the tinting solution. Leave the bubbles alone and they should evaporate naturally.

How long does a tint job last?

Tint jobs can last from a few years to many, depending on different factors:

  • Tint Film: Not all films are equal. Standard tint films and high end tint films can last between 5 and 10 years respectively
  • Weather: The more sunlight that hits your tint film, the quicker it may fade. If you live in a particularly sunny area with strong rays, however, tinting is worth considering
  • Installer: Who tints your windows impacts how well your tint works. We recommend you choose a professional shop with knowledgeable glass tinters, like our own, for the best results.
